Hoy Announces Expansion Plans for New York Market
Will shift daily edition to proven controlled circulation model
CHICAGO, November 30, 2005 – Hoy, the nation's leading Spanish-language newspaper, with daily editions in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, announced today it will expand its reach to New York Hispanics by converting its daily New York publication to a controlled circulation model. Effective Jan. 23, 2006, Hoy will remove its cover price and distribute 60,000 copies free daily (Monday-Saturday) through retail locations, honor boxes and on-street hawkers. Hoy will also convert its existing Sunday edition into a weekend edition, available both Saturday and Sunday.
"Hoy decided to move to controlled circulation in New York after successfully converting its Chicago and Los Angels editions in January 2005," said Aníbal Torres, Vice President and General Manager of Hoy New York. "Hoy has enjoyed double-digit readership growth in both of those markets. This new model makes Hoy more accessible to New York area Hispanics and addresses the needs of advertisers to reach a significant number of responsive readers as cost-effectively as possible." With this change, Hoy's national daily distribution will exceed 185,000 copies daily in the nation's three largest markets – New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. Hoy's distribution is highly targeted, offering significant penetration of Hispanic readers in key zip codes. Hoy's New York edition will be audited by Certified Audit of Circulations (CAC) every March, with a publisher statement being released every September. CAC has been an objective third-party source of certified circulation data since 1956. CAC offers the highest quality methodology for measuring net distribution of controlled circulation publications. It is a member of the International Federation of Audit Bureaux of Circulations (IFABC), the Advertising Research Foundation (ARF) and other leading industry associations. CAC currently audits Hoy's Chicago and Los Angeles editions. ### Hoy is the country's only national Spanish-language daily, with an average issue readership over 525,000 and a net average daily distribution of more than 165,000 copies across its New York, Los Angeles and Chicago editions.
