Chicago Police Arrests Two Murder Suspects From Tips Generated by Telemundo Chicago and Hoy
Mayor Daley and Police Department credit media outlets to helping solve unsolved crime
Spanish Version
CHICAGO, May 11, 2006 -- In response to a tip generated from a bi-weekly news segment called "Crímenes sin Resolver" (Unsolved Crimes) produced by Telemundo Chicago and Hoy, the Chicago Police Department arrested and charged two individuals with first degree murder in relation to the homicide of Iván Sánchez, killed in September, 2004. The case was unsolved for two years until Telemundo Chicago and Hoy featured the case eight weeks ago. A viewer came forward and led to the identification and arrest of Jorge Gomez and Misael Juárez. According to the police, both individuals were driving around 4810 W. Palmer on September 19, 2004, and approached the victim as he sat in his car with his girlfriend. Jorge Gomez, charged with first degree murder, confronted the victim, Ivan Sanchez, regarding his gang affiliation and shot him to death ignoring his innocence plead. "I want to thank Telemundo Chicago and Hoy for partnering with the Chicago Police Department to help fight crime in our City. This show is a great example of one of the ways we are working together with the business community to improve the quality of life for our residents," said Mayor Richard Daley. " I encourage residents to continue working with Police, because together we can make our children and neighborhoods safer." The "Crímenes sin Resolver" segment was first launched in October 2005. Thus far twelve cases have been profiled. "This is yet another example of how when the police and the community work together crimes are solved," said Police Superintendent Phil J. Cline. "Telemundo Chicago and Hoy reach many and their involvement has been essential in furthering this great crime fighting partnership." "We are proud of our partnership with the Chicago police department and Hoy and even prouder to serve the Hispanic community," said Ed Fernandez, Vice-president and General Manager of Telemundo Chicago. "We encourage our viewers and readers to come forward and help the authorities so we can help solve many other crimes and make our neighborhoods safer." "We are hopeful that this important development in the pursuit of justice can serve as demonstration of the power of partnership between the Hispanic people of Chicago and the media outlets that serve them, with the goal to make our community a better and safer place," said Julian Posada, General Manager Hoy Chicago. ### Telemundo, a U.S. Spanish-language television network, is the essential entertainment, news and sports source for Hispanics.
